Russia Denies Claims of Stalling Ukraine Talks

(MENAFN) Russia is not seeking to delay negotiations with Ukraine and remains committed to achieving its objectives through political and diplomatic means, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed on Tuesday.

Peskov acknowledged that implementing the agreements reached during the initial two rounds of direct talks with Ukraine, such as prisoner exchanges and the transfer of fallen soldiers’ bodies, requires time. "Objectively, it is difficult to talk about the possibility of any strong acceleration," he said, adding that there is no effort to hinder or slow the progress of these agreements.

His remarks followed comments made by U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who criticized Russia on Monday, stating, "Russia cannot continue to stall for time while it bombs civilian targets in Ukraine."

Russia and Ukraine held two rounds of direct negotiations in Istanbul, Türkiye, on May 16 and June 2. The second round resulted in an agreement for an "all-for-all" swap of seriously ill and injured prisoners, as well as soldiers under 25, along with the return of fallen soldiers’ bodies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed last week that the two sides have agreed to hold a third round of talks once the exchanges are completed.
