Zakharova Accuses EU of Fueling Conflict in Ukraine
Her remarks follow a new initiative announced by US President Donald Trump, who suggested that American arms be sent to Ukraine with the financial support of EU taxpayers.
According to Trump’s proposal, Europe would bear the cost of the weapons while the US continues to supply them.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas responded positively to the plan, though she remarked that Trump should not claim credit unless Washington is willing to “share the burden.”
Commenting on Kallas’s reaction, Zakharova posted on social media, questioning whether the diplomat was beginning to “figure things out.”
She added a pointed analogy: “Let’s help her: it’s a bit like being told to foot the bill for a meal someone else enjoys, only for them to end up dead afterward. Am I correct?”
Moscow has repeatedly insisted that no quantity of Western weapons will alter Russia’s strategic objectives in the ongoing conflict.
The Kremlin accuses the EU of extending the war by treating Ukraine as a stand-in for broader geopolitical goals, aiming to damage Russia while sacrificing Ukrainian lives.
Trump, meanwhile, has described arms transfers to Ukraine as a commercial venture beneficial to the US.
His administration argues that shifting the financial burden to the EU aligns with the bloc's greater stake in Ukraine’s future.
