Ukrainian drone hits Russian train

(MENAFN) Early Friday morning, a Ukrainian drone struck a passenger train in southern Russia, causing minor injuries to two individuals, according to Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev.

Fragments from the drone fell near a train station in Timashevsk, damaging a passing train, the governor reported on Telegram. One injured person was hospitalized, while the other declined hospital treatment but received medical care on site. Despite the damage, the train continued its journey.

The governor also noted that drone strikes caused damage to several homes in nearby rural areas. Air raid warnings were issued along the Black Sea and Sea of Azov coasts, as well as in the Northern Caucasus and Tambov region, leading to temporary airport closures.

This incident follows a previous Ukrainian drone attack on Sochi, the host city of the 2014 Winter Olympics, which resulted in the deaths of two railway workers. Since 2022, Ukrainian operatives have repeatedly sabotaged railway infrastructure across Russia. Moscow has accused Kiev of orchestrating the May bombing of a bridge in western Russia, which caused a train derailment and killed seven people.

These attacks occur shortly after Russia and Ukraine held their third round of peace negotiations in Istanbul, where Russia proposed temporary ceasefires to recover fallen soldiers’ bodies and arrange a large-scale prisoner exchange.
